Semester Reflection Essay - Words
When I first started this class I thought I was going to be going through a traditional English program and in general improving my English and grammar skills. The first few projects and blog posts we had to do I just did them too the book because I had no idea what the expectations were for this class.
After a few assignments I found myself getting more comfortable with blog posts and being more creative in my thinking, yet still writing in a strict format. Finally towards the end of the semester I started writing more casually, while still sticking to my good technique.
I allowed myself to be very creative and let my ideas flow into words, which made up my writing. After re-reading my old works, I tended to ramble on about certain topics in order to fill word requirements and leave my great ideas at the beginning or end of the essay.
I can now go back and see where I went wrong, pick out the passionate idea and mold it into a new, better idea that flows into a masterpiece of words that explains my idea in every form. Another thing this class has brought into me is the ability and knowledge to write a good paper using sources from our library here at WSU. I have learned to use the system, and how to find the information I need in a reflection paper end of semester amount of time.
By using the methods of thinking how to write the TED Talk, I find myself using that as a guideline for how I write my papers for other classes. It also helps me think in creative ways when writing these papers. Instead of taking the traditional route of strict guidelines, I find myself pushing the limits of the paper by increasing my word count and filling it with well-supported ideas.
My favorite blog post so far has probably been my TED Talk. I was able to take what I know from my environmental science class and use those ideas as a mold for my talk. At first I struggled to find a topic, but then I thought about environmental science and I just knew that would be my topic, reflection paper end of semester. Overall it might not have been my best project, but I do feel like it was the one I was most passionate about.
They are all written too structurally and by doing that I pushed creativity out of the picture. I have now learned to keep creativity in by making the structure just a little loser. As a writer I have impressed myself this semester in all my classes. I have found that my best-written papers so far have come from this semester. All this credit can be given to this class that reflection paper end of semester me write using my new found style, and creativity.
What I put on the paper is probably only a fourth of what goes through my head as I write these papers. If I have an idea I have to write it down quick otherwise it will be gone. I find myself making a lot of discoveries about myself when I write too.
I quite often stop for a minute and think about what the implications of a topic could be. Almost every piece of work I turn in I feel bad about. But overall this class has helped ease the transition of ideas from my head to the paper. This semester has been good to my writing and I hope to continually improve my writing as my life goes on.
